Engage Porter Service
Since the Ama Yangri trek 7 days journey is a short and comfortable experience, we do not offer porter services for your luggage transport.
You can simply leave your belongings at your accommodation in Kathmandu at the start of the trek and carry a small backpack with your personal items.
However, if you would like to have the assistance of the porter to carry your luggage and backpack, we can offer this service for an additional cost.
Best Season for the Ama Yangri Trek
The best time for the Ama Yangri trek is between March and May (spring) as well as between September and November (autumn). During spring, the nature of the Langtang National Park will explode with bright colors, while rainfall is also minimal and visibility is excellent.
In autumn, the forests turn into shades of gold and red with the most consistent weather, crisp mountain air, and breathtaking views. Summer (June to August) is perfect for those who love long days, but be prepared for the heavy rainfall of the monsoon.
In winter (December to February), you can enjoy the trail of the Ama Yangri trek to yourself when you will also have warm temperatures and sunlit days.
Difficulty of the Ama Yangri Trek 7 Days Adventure
Our Ama Yangri trek 7 days adventure, is a pretty simple Himalayan adventure that is graded as a profile II moderate trek. It leads you to the highest elevation of the Ama Yangri Summit at 3771 m, where you will linger only for a few enjoyable moments.
The highest elevation where you will spend the night will be at 2621 m in Sermanthang. Throughout the 7 days, you will only hike for three days, with each day’s hike averaging about 4 to 5 hours.
The elevation gain is also limited to 500 m, and the trail is mostly a forest path that is comfortable and easy to walk on. The path to the summit is also mainly a forest trail, which can sometimes be dusted with a light snow.
This is also an entirely lodge-based trek, which means you will have a warm bed after each day’s trek. Altitude will also not pose a threat during this adventure.
Ama Yangri Trek Itinerary is best for whom?
Our Ama Yangri trek itinerary is open to all ages as it requires no skills, expertise, or experience. Being very close to Kathmandu, it is also entirely a safe trek that does not pose an extreme threat of altitude sickness.
The shorter duration, cheaper cost also make this trek best for those looking for a few days detoxification in the midst of the lonely nature. It is also best for those who like their adventure infused with some spiritual significance.
However, you should be prepared to walk for 5 to 6 hours over three days along the mountain trails and be fit enough to manage this type of trekking journey.
Acute Mountain Sickness/AMS and Acclimatization
There is no higher risk of AMS in our Ama Yangri trek, but still, you should be aware of its minor signs. Remember, the trek will take you over 3700 m for a short period, and your sleeping altitude will be above 2500 m for two days, where the oxygen levels will be quite lower than at sea level.
The first sign you may notice is a headache, followed by nausea, trouble sleeping, dizziness, loss of appetite, and shortness of breath. Our Ama Yangri trek itinerary is planned with gradual ascent, frequent breaks, and acclimating walks in each village, so you will adapt to the elevation changes quickly.
We also emphasize that you drink plenty of water, sleep enough, take Diamox if you think you are overly sensitive to the altitude, or if you are a first timer in trekking.
Our guide will be with you to assist you with any discomfort on the trek. Please incorporate warm drinks like ginger tea or lemon tea into your daily diet when trekking.
Preparation for the Ama Yangri Trek
Our Ama Yangri trek requires you to cover around 80 to 90 km in a week, walking along a mountainous trail that involves frequent, but gentle, ascents and descents.
Therefore, it is essential for you to be physically active for this trek. If you are not, you will definitely need to start some physical preparation at least one month ahead of our Ama Yangri trek.
No special activities are necessary; you can simply engage in regular exercises like walking, cycling, and running. You can also prepare yourself with sports that you love.
The best approach would be to go on regular hikes and spend a day or two outdoors so you can familiarize yourself with the hiking experience.
Alternate Route and Possible Extension of the Ama Yangri Trek
If you can add just a day or two to our Ama Yangri Trek, then you can fully enjoy the magnificent Helambu Valley. For this, you will have to start with a drive to Sundarijal, then trek through Shivapuri National Park, which will lead you to Chisapani, Kutumsang, and Thadepati.
These are the authentic villages of the Helambu Valley that will offer you more wilderness and the peace you are looking for. From Thadepati, the trail will connect to Tarke Ghyang, where you can climb to the summit.
You may also consider adding the Langtang Valley trek and Gosaikunda Lake trek to your Ama Yangri trek, which will require a few more days and additional physical training.
Accommodation, Eating, and Transportation
During the walking holiday of our Ama Yangri trek, you will be staying in a three-star hotel in Kathmandu that offers tastefully furnished twin rooms, each with free WiFi, a private bathroom with a hot and cold shower, and a toilet.
On the trail, you will stay in cozy mountain lodges in the picturesque villages of Helambu Valley, surrounded by vast forest and hiking trails. These local tea houses or lodges are mainly family guesthouse that offers comfortable double beds with dining facilities.
As for meals, your stay in Kathmandu will be bed and breakfast, and on the trail will be full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner) except for your beverages.
As for transfers, Glory Adventure will use only private vehicles for your airport-hotel-airport transfers, Kathmandu-Timbu, and Sermanthang to Kathmandu transports.
Mobile Network and Internet/WiFi Connection
Mobile network coverage on the Ama Yangri trek is quite strong up to Tarke Ghyang. You can buy a local SIM card from either NTC or Ncell, which you can activate and recharge easily.
You can also benefit from affordable data packages through their 4G connectivity. If you prefer, you can also easily get an online eSIM from these networks and activate it once you reach Kathmandu.
Please keep in mind that the coverage may get weak as you climb towards the summit and near Ama Yangri Peak. As for WiFi, certain lodges up to Tarke Ghyang provide WiFi at an additional cost of NPR 100 to 300 per device per hour.
The speed may not be consistently strong, but it is adequate enough to send and read messages.
Electricity and Charging
Helambu Valley is mostly supplied with electricity by solar panels and hydropower. You can therefore recharge the batteries of your gadgets, such as mobile, camera, GPS, power bank, etc, at the lodges by paying a small sum between NPR 200 to NPR 500 per device.
We advise you to have a power bank and extra batteries to take photos and videos while ascending the Ama Yangri Summit.
Permits Needed for the Ama Yangri Trek
For the Ama Yangri Trek, we need to have the following two permits:
- Langtang National Park Entry Permit: This permit allows for the entrance and hiking activity inside the preserved landmark of the Langtang National Park. The cost for foreign trekkers is NPR 3000 per person, for SAARC nationals, it is NPR 1500 per trekker, and for Nepalese trekkers, it is NPR 100 per trekker.
- TIMS Card: It is the Trekkers’ Information Management System Card issued only to government-registered trekking and tour agencies in Nepal (like Glory Adventure) and not to individual trekkers. For international hikers, the cost is NPR 2000 per person, while for SAARC hikers, it is NPR 1000.
Our team will take care of the procurement process of these permits in Kathmandu, and we will also cover the associated fees.
Travel Insurance
Please know that travel insurance will be compulsory for our Ama Yangri trek, as we will have to get the TIMS Card for the trek, which will not be issued if you are unable to show your insurance papers.
Although the Ama Yangri trek is comparatively a light mountain adventure, it is still a summit in the Himalayan region of Nepal. Here, unimaginable incidents can arise at inopportune times as you will be exposed to possible accidents, injuries, illness, infections, and Altitude Sickness.
Such incidents can sometimes need emergency rescue and evacuation by helicopter, which itself is very pricey if you don’t have insurance to cover it for you.
For our Ama Yangri trek, we suggest you specify coverage for helicopter transport up to 3800 m altitude along with comprehensive medical and accidental coverage, and provisions for the financial support for any theft, dAmage, baggage loss, or trip cancellation or delays.
