Difficulty
The high altitude (maximum 5416 m at Thorong La Pass), the rugged/inclined trails, and the chilly air of the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek make up for the difficulty of the trek.
High altitude means a low amount of oxygen in the air which causes shortness of breath to make up for the limited oxygen. Inclined trails at some sections are very difficult as we will be trekking on soil grounds, not well-paved roads. All in all, our Annapuran guides rate this trek a 7 out of 10.
Best seasons
The Best Time For Short Annapurna Circuit Trek 12 days is during the autumn, summer, and spring season. The summer season might seem a bit too warm in the lower hilly region but it sure is the time for the best views of the region.
During summer, the bright illuminated green hills of the region paired with the bright white peaks in the distance make up a scene you will hardly forget.
On the other side, autumn and spring seasons also make up great views but they are usually chosen for their “less rainfall” trait. All in all the Best Time For Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is summer followed by spring and autumn.
Altitude Sickness
You are not very likely to get altitude sickness during this trek as we barely spend time at elevations higher than 5000 meters which is the home of the sickness.
The highest point of the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is the Thorong-la Pass, an astounding 5416 meters above sea level, but we will not be spending much time there.
Altitude sickness generally occurs when one spends the night at a high altitude without proper acclimatization. This is exactly the reason we have included many acclimatization hikes throughout our Short Annapurna Circuit Trek itinerary.
Accommodation, Food, and Drink
During this Short Annapurna Circuit Trek, you will get to taste a bunch of authentic highland dishes that can only be found in the Annapurna region. The highlands of the Annapurna region are mainly inhabited by Gurung, Magar, and Thakali tribes, both of which have distinct food.
The Gurung villages in the region serve traditional dishes like Mohi Chop, Gurung Bread, Kinema, etc. while the Magar communities offer Bara, Batuk, fried yam, etc. The Thakali community is perhaps best known all over Nepal for their famous Thakali lunch/dinner set.
You can get all kinds of beverages ranging from refreshing tea and juices to alcoholic drinks. The Gurung and Magar communities locally produce alcohol made from Millet while in Manang you can find apple brandy and alcohol made from Barley, the main crop produced in the region.
The accommodation throughout the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek 12 days is fairly comfortable with just the basic amenities done right. You will find some extra amenities but some of them might just be for the sake of it.
Nevertheless, the establishments in the highlands of Annapurna do not have a bad reputation as they are doing everything to make trekkers feel comfy even though materials are hard to come by in hardly accessible villages.
