Trip Overview of Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek- 6 Days

The Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days is a short yet captivating and exciting Himalayan trekking adventure that has been one of the most visited trekking destinations in Nepal.

Last year, the Annapurna region was the most visited trekking destination in all of Nepal, beating destinations like Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Lake, and Manaslu Base Camp. While the trekking region is the most visited, this trek is surprisingly less crowded. Most people opt for Poonhill, Ghandruk, and other lower-region destinations.

Along the way, you will get to enjoy many scenes of the Annapurna I, II, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, and more. There are many panoramic viewpoints en route, and we will take breaks to take in the amazing scenery presented in front of us. The lush green hills, the raging white river, and the snow-covered peaks in the distance accompany us for the most part.

Starting from Jhinu Danda, we will go through many thick forests, pass glacial valleys, terrace farming lands, rivers, and more. Our itinerary passes by villages such as Chhomrong, Bamboo, and Deurali, which are the main stops along the way. While the unpopular stops provide a more authentic countryside stay, they also lack even some basic amenities, which is why we will stick to safer options.

Most of the villages in the region are dominated by the Gurung and Magar communities, who are known for their fierce Gurkha rage, but also their warm, welcoming smile that you will definitely see during this Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days.

They have a rich culture and traditional practices that you are likely to see on this trek. Many of the villages in the region have nightly performances that showcase their traditional instruments, songs, attire, and dance.

Frequently Asked Question (FAQ’s)

Yes, a reverse trail is a viable option for an alternative route for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days itinerary. Starting from Ghandruk, the route will cover about 85 km of distance, ending at Jhinu Danda. Changing the route can change many things logistically, so we might have to adjust the pricing of the trek package accordingly.

On average, you will be on the tracks for 5 to 6 hours a day. While the shorter trekking days range from 3 to 5 hours, the longer ones can last 6 to 7 hours. Regardless of the long trekking hours, the daily treks are very manageable.

You can add destinations to the standard itinerary, making it a tad bit longer. Popular nearby destinations include Ghandruk, Australian Base Camp, Poon Hill, and more. While Ghandruk and Australian Base Camp can be visited within hours, Poon Hill takes a lot more time. At least a couple of days have to be added to the standard itinerary for this side trek.

While private rooms are a possibility, they are not guaranteed since it demand is high. The local tea house in the Annapurna highlands seldom offers private rooms; that is just how they have been running their businesses. If you would like to have a private room, we will try to arrange it as much as possible. Usually, private rooms are booked for months.

Yes, electricity is available at every nightly stop we make on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days. However, occasional power outages are an issue in the highlands, which calls for power banks. Not only do they let you charge your devices during power outages, but you can also charge on the go.

Yes, network providers such as NTC cover a huge part of the Annapurna highlands, making it easier for the remote village to contact the lower regions. However, the signal can be weaker in some places that are shadowed by high hills.

Meanwhile, the internet connectivity can be very unreliable and frustratingly slow. At the base camp, you have to rely on a mobile network to gain access to the internet.

Along the tea houses on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 6 days itinerary, popular Nepalese dishes, including Dal Bhat, flat bread, veggie stew, stir-fried veggies, momo, chowmein, different types of curries, etc., can be ordered.

For vegetarian trekkers, there are many options, and we actually recommend that trekkers not eat any meat during the trekking days, as they can be contaminated.

Lodges and tea houses have blankets for every bed, but they might not be enough to block the cold, especially in base camps and nearby stops. So, we recommend trekkers to pack a warm sleeping bag. At the base camp, the temperature can go well below 0 °C, so make sure that your sleeping bag is capable of handling -10 °C of temperature.

Yes, trekking poles are necessary for every steep descent en route. The loose scree and rocky terrain of the highlands are notorious for being slippery, a pair of trekking poles will save to from slipping away to some extent. In addition to that, trekking poles also cushion the pressure that your knees have to bear for hours.

Yes, even though the ascent is short, altitude sickness is still a possibility because the elevation of the base camp is 4130 meters above sea level. It is not about short or long ascent, altitude sickness creeps in on you after you fail to practice the preventive measures. While only 7% of our total trekkers have had altitude sickness while doing this trek, most of them were cured instantly by dropping down to a lower elevation.

The locals who were born and raised there do not have any issue drinking the unfiltered and untreated natural spring water. Although the water from springs is naturally safe to drink, we do not want you to risk it, since contamination can come from many sources. We recommend using water purification tablets every time you refill your bottle.

Leeches are mostly active during the monsoon period; however, they can be found in small numbers during the spring season. To avoid them sticking to your skin and sucking your blood, you can simply use insect repellent with DEET in them. You should also avoid wearing shorts while trekking, even though you sprayed insect repellent.

No, drones are not allowed at the Annapurna Base Camp. However, you may fly your drone and take some footage at lower altitudes. To fly your drone all along the way, you need to have a special permit, which usually takes a couple of business days to obtain.

No, solo trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp is not a possibility. The Government of Nepal does not allow international visitors to solo travel in protected regions such as the Annapurna Conservation Area. Moreover, a guide is not only your GPS in the remote highlands, but also the one who fills the communication gap between you and the locals, and the one to help you if you get altitude sickness.

Absolutely, the hot springs are the best way to relax your sore muscles. From Jhinu Danda, you just have to walk about 15 minutes to reach the Modi riverbank where the hot springs are located. While it is free, they do ask you to donate a dollar to preserve nature and offer more amenities around it. There are many pools, each with a different temperature; the hottest one of them is right beside the river.

While the larger village at lower regions often has rooms, since they have larger inns and lodges, the highland tea houses are just the opposite. The rooms in tea houses are often booked weeks and months in advance, and the rooms are small, along with the whole size of the tea house. Without prior booking, it is very difficult to find any rooms during the peak trekking season.

We will start the trek at around 7 in the morning. This is because we prefer to finish the trek before the afternoon winds hit the highlands. By 2 or 3 P.M., we must have completed the trek.
