How does our trip start?
This Makalu Base Camp Trek starts on the day of your arrival at the capital city of Kathmandu. After your arrival, one of our representatives will receive you at the terminal and drop you off at your accommodation for the night. On the 2nd day, we will obtain the permits required for this trek and visit many sites within the Kathmandu Valley.
The 3rd day of the trek requires us to fly out to Tumlingtar from Kathmandu and drive to the village of Num. We will spend the night there and start the first day of trekking the following day.
Difficulty
The Makalu Base Camp Trek is graded as a moderately difficult trek, which requires trekkers to traverse rugged terrains, icy trails, and high ascents and experience an extreme cold climate in the highlands. All these factors make the trekking experience difficult, but these are also the factors that make the trek exciting. These are the “traits” of the trek that we must experience to feel a sense of achievement. On a scale of 10, Glory Adventure’s guides have rated it an 8.
Best seasons
The best seasons for visiting the Makalu region are spring and autumn. Both of these seasons are very suitable for outdoor activities such as trekking since they offer moderate daytime temperatures and cooler nights. They also offer clear views of the landscape as the visibility is high and the weather stays clear for the most part. Both seasons offer very low chances of rain.
Altitude Sickness
The highest altitude we will reach on this trek depends on the acclimatization hike at Makalu Base Camp. We have two different options: a hike to Barun Lake, which gets us to 5100 meters above sea level, and a hike to a ridge viewpoint, which reaches 5300 meters. Both these options are prone to altitude sickness, but we will not be spending much time at such an extreme height. Glory Adventure’s trek guide will help you acclimate well to the changes in environment and elevation, keeping you safe from altitude sickness.
Accommodation, Food and Drink
Our standard arrangement features a twin-sharing basis, which means you will be sharing nightly rooms with one of the trekkers in the group. A private stay can also be managed at a price. The food options range from locally available ingredients, seasonal ingredients, and a couple of western options.
Transportation
The trek starts with a flight to Tumlingtar and a drive to Num village, the starting point of the trek. Then, we will drive back to Tumlingtar from Num and fly back to Kathmandu at the end of the trek. We will also arrange a private vehicle for you during the day tour in Kathmandu. All these transportation expenses will be covered by the Makalu Base Camp Trek package.
Permit
For this trek, you will only need the Makalu National Park and Conservation Area Permit.
Trip preparation and fitness
Preparing for this trek requires trekkers to start physical exercise at least 10 to 12 weeks before they fly to Nepal. You should focus on stamina building and cardio exercises.
Cost & Budget
The standard cost of the Makalu Base Camp Trek is USD ______ per person. If you request additional services or any changes, the ultimate price will be adjusted accordingly.
Gadgets charging & Internet
Charging your gadgets can be a hassle, especially during your time in the highlands. Electrical grids have yet to reach the innermost parts of this route, which is why the locals rely more on solar energy. The internet connectivity throughout the trek is very unreliable and unstable. Additionally, you do not get mobile network connections.
Your Extra expenses
Things like visa fees, international flight expenses, additional meals, upgraded accommodation, emergency evacuation services, and more are your extra expenses.
