Trip Overview of Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing

If you’re seeking the best trekking adventure in Nepal, combining the Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing is the perfect challenge!

This 18-day adventure in Nepal with Glory Adventure takes you through the heart of the Everest region, offering the opportunity to trek to one of the world’s most iconic landmarks and conquer a stunning Himalayan peak.

With breathtaking scenery, rugged mountain paths, and exciting high-altitude climbing, this trek will push your limits while rewarding you with incredible memories!

The Everest Base Camp trek alone is known worldwide for its location and adventure, but adding the summit of Island Peak elevates the experience to a whole new level! Along the way, you’ll pass through picturesque Sherpa villages, traverse high passes, and walk over massive glaciers.

And then, at the end of the trek, you’ll have the exhilarating chance to stand atop Island Peak at an altitude of 6,189 meters, looking out over some of the tallest mountains on the planet!

The adventure begins in Kathmandu, the bustling capital of Nepal. After arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport, our Glory Adventure team will be there to greet you and take you to your hotel. Kathmandu is a vibrant city full of history and culture, so take some time to explore!

Or wander through the lively streets of Thamel, where you can shop for trekking gear, souvenirs, and sample delicious local food.

The next day, you’ll fly to Lukla, a mountain village that serves as the starting point for the trek. The flight itself is an adventure, with spectacular views of the mountains below. Once you land in Lukla, you’ll meet up with the rest of the trekking team and begin the hike to Phakding, a peaceful village nestled beside the Dudh Koshi River.

The trek really begins to pick up pace as you head from Phakding to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital of the Everest region. Namche Bazaar is a vibrant village set in a natural amphitheater, surrounded by towering peaks. You’ll spend an extra day here to acclimatize, which is essential for adjusting to the higher altitudes ahead. While in Namche, you’ll take a short hike up to the famous Everest View Hotel, where you can enjoy your first panoramic views of Mount Everest itself!

Continuing onward, you’ll trek to Tengboche, home to the largest and most important monastery in the region. The Tengboche Monastery sits in a stunning location, with views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse all around you. It’s a peaceful and spiritual place, offering a moment of reflection before you continue your journey deeper into the mountains.

After leaving Tengboche, the trail takes you through the Imja Khola Valley and up to Dingboche, where you’ll spend another day acclimatizing. At this point, you’ll be hiking at higher elevations, and the landscape will have transformed into a more barren, alpine environment. The acclimatization day is a great opportunity to hike up to Nagarsyang Peak, where you’ll get your first clear view of Island Peak looming in the distance. As you push further into the mountains, you’ll eventually reach Lobuche and then Gorakshep, the last village before Everest Base Camp. The trek to Base Camp is one of the most anticipated parts of the journey.

Walking alongside the Khumbu Glacier, you’ll finally arrive at Everest Base Camp, standing at the foot of the tallest mountain in the world.

It’s a surreal experience, and one that fills you with awe and pride as you take in the incredible surroundings. But the adventure doesn’t end there! After celebrating your achievement at Everest Base Camp, you’ll start the second phase of the journey, the climb to Island Peak.

You’ll retrace your steps back to Lobuche and then head towards the challenging Kongma La Pass, one of the highest passes in the Everest region. The climb over the pass is tough, but the views from the top are absolutely stunning. You’ll then descend to Chukung, a small village where you’ll prepare for the Island Peak climb.

From Chukung, you’ll make the steep ascent to Island Peak Base Camp, where your tents will be set up and you’ll have time to rest before the climb. The next morning, the real challenge begins as you set off for the summit of Island Peak. The climb involves steep sections, snow, and ice, but the route is well-marked with fixed ropes to ensure your safety.

When you finally reach the summit, the sense of accomplishment is overwhelming. Standing at 6,189 meters, you’ll be surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the world, including Mount Makalu, Baruntse, and Ama Dablam. After savoring the incredible views from the summit, you’ll descend back to Base Camp and retrace your steps to Chukung. From here, the trek back to Lukla begins, passing through familiar stops like Dingboche and Namche Bazaar. Once you return to Lukla, you’ll have a celebratory dinner with the team to mark the success of your adventure.

Your journey ends back in Kathmandu, where Glory Adventure will host a special farewell dinner. You’ll have the chance to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past 18 days, from reaching Everest Base Camp to standing on the summit of Island Peak Climbing. The difficult aspect of this Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing  is the steep trails and the high altitude, much like any other Himalayan trek. For the Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing, the seasons of spring and autumn are usually the best. These seasons accommodate the proper environmental conditions for trekkers to enjoy the adventure to the maximum. Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness is a major concern during this Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing. Even more so than other trekking destinations as this one requires trekkers to climb the Island mountain. On a scale of 10, our expert guides rate it a solid 8.5.

Accommodation, Food and Drink

The regional foods of Everest include Dal Bhat (rice and lentils with a side of veggies), momo (dumplings), different kinds of traditional bread, tsampa (barley balls), along with modern dishes like pizza, porridge, pancakes, pasta, macaroni, omelets, poached eggs, etc. There are a plethora of drinks available as well, namely, Sherpa tea, ginger tea, lemon tea, hot chocolate, local alcohol, etc. We recommend you not to drink too many alcoholic drinks during the trek as it can dehydrate your body which is not optimal for avoiding altitude sickness.

To prepare for this amazing trek, you should do some exercises at least 4 days a week for 12 weeks prior to the start of the Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing. Island Peak is not one of the most challenging peaks to climb so it has a massive success rate of 85%. Compared to Everest’s success rate of 77%, Island Peak seems like an easy climbing experience but that is not the case, it is definitely hard to scale it and an amazing feat to achieve undoubtedly.

The best weather, as per our expert guides, is the spring and autumn weather. These weathers offer the optimal trekking temp as it is neither too warm nor too hilly. However, the high Himalayas will definitely be chilling.

The best route for doing the Everest Base Camp trek is the standard route that we have integrated into this route. Similarly, the best route for Island peak trekking is via Chhukung. We have combined both routes to give you the optimal route.
