First, we will get out of the valley and get on the Prithvi Highway to get to Malekhu, our lunch stop. From there, we will drive to Dumre, take a sharp right turn, and get on the road to Besisahar. After we get there, we will get off the bus and get on a jeep.
Difficulty
The Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake is categorized as a challenging trek, and rightfully so; it is one. Even though the trekking days are just 9 days long, the rugged trails, the difficult ascents, the harsh cold, and the long trekking days make it a challenging trek. Expert trek guides at Glory Adventure rate this trek a solid 9 out of 10. Needless to say, this trekking destination is not meant for beginners at all.
Out of the 9 trekking days, we will spend 6 of them at over 4000 meters of elevation. Gaining elevation does not only mean ascents, but also lower oxygen concentration and a cold climate with a dry landscape.
Best seasons
The best seasons to visit the Annapurna region are spring and autumn. During the autumn season, the trails are dry, the overall landscape is free of moss, slippery trails, chances of rain are very low, and the visibility is at peak. These traits make it one of the best seasons to do the Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake. In addition to that, the autumn season is also the festive season in Nepal, meaning you could experience some celebratory rituals and performances throughout your time in Nepal.
Similar to autumn, the season of spring is yet another best season to do this trek. This season offers a vibrant vegetation as wild flowers, wild berries, and Rhododendron flowers bloom throughout the highlands. The daytime temperature remains very mild throughout the season, however, early spring can be a bit too warm, while the latter part of the season can be rainy. All in all, this is a great time to experience the highlands of Annapurna and witness the amazing natural scenery that the region offers.
Altitude Sickness
The maximum altitude that you will reach on this Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake is 5416 meters at the summit of Thorong La Pass. This is a considerable elevation, but we will only spend a maximum of 25 minutes at the top of this pass. The other noticeable aspect is spending 6 days at over 4000 meters of elevation. This is a potential way to get altitude sickness; however, the expert trek guides of Glory Adventure know the preventive measures of altitude sickness.
Our guides will educate you on the preventive measures, present you with the pill that will eradicate your altitude sickness, and also check your oxygen levels to see any early signs of altitude sickness.
Accommodation, Food and Drink
Accommodation during the trekking days will be in lodges, inns, and tea houses that are locally owned and operated. These tea houses offer a great experience, some might say that they are an inseparable part of any Himalayan trekking adventure. These establishments offer the basic services along with extra services like hot showers, WiFi, laundry, and more. You should not expect any more from them, as bringing in goods from the cities is a hassle in those remote villages.
Your breakfast options during the trekking days are pancakes, toast, eggs, Tibetan bread, muesli, cereals, porridge, etc., served with a warm cup of tea. Meanwhile, your dinner and lunch options are Dal Bhat, Thukpa, Momo, Dhido, and a few western options like pizza, burgers, pasta, spaghetti, sandwiches, etc. Note that the western options are not available at every eatery we stop at.
Drinks like hot tea, hot chocolate, seasonal fruit juice, canned juice, soda, etc. are found a most of the eateries. You can also try locally brewed alcohol.
Transportation
This Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake requires trekkers to drive from Kathmandu to Chame, the starting point of the trek, drive from Muktinath to Jomsom, fly from Jomsom to Pokhara, and take a bus ride from Pokhara to Kathmandu at the end of the trek. All of these transportation expenses will be covered by the standard package cost. In addition to that, we will pick you up at the airport and drop you off at no cost.
Permit
This Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake requires the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) only. You do not need any other permit, and the cost of this one will be covered by our standard trek package.
Trip preparation and fitness
Since this is a challenging trek, we recommend trekkers train for at least 16 to 18 weeks before starting this trek. This will ensure that you are ready for the physical requirements of the trek. By the end of the preparation phase, you will have plenty of stamina and strong leg muscles that will make your trekking days a breeze.
The best way to prepare for this trek is to train your calf muscles and upper thigh muscles since you will be using them the most. Other than that, you do not have to focus on any muscle, but make sure that you also focus on building endurance.
Cost & Budget
This Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake will cost you USD 1600 per person. Your daily accommodation expense, permit fees, daily meals during the trekking days, local taxes, wages for the porters, guides, and drivers, their insurance, and more will be covered by this package.
Gadgets charging & Internet
The Annapurna region offers a great staying experience, but you might have to deal with occasional power outages that hamper the overall experience. However, the locals make sure to use solar power to light their eateries and houses in times of power outage. This means you will be able to charge your devices throughout the trek. Unfortunately, the same can not be said for the internet. Having a reliable internet connection is a myth in the remote Annapuran highlands.
Extra Expenses
Things like hot shower fees, WiFi charges, laundry charges, additional meals, upgraded accommodation, additional stays, emergency evacuation services, personal travel insurance fees, etc., are not a part of the standard trek package. These are your extra expenses that you must pay separately.

Add-Ons
Upgrade Your Accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara
Kathmandu and Pokhara are the only places where you can upgrade your accommodation, on this Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake itinerary. Our standard accommodations are 3-star hotels in both cities, which can be upgraded to 4-star or 5-star accommodations. Make sure that you request this arrangement during the booking phase if you are interested in an upgrade. This will give us ample time to work out your preferred stay. Note that this upgrade is exclusive of the standard trek package, meaning you will have to pay extra for it.
Private Helicopter flight from Jomsom to Pokhara
The only limitation of the flights from Jomsom to Pokhara and vice versa is that there are only morning flights. This is because of the speedy afternoon winds that terrorize the highlands, making the unsuitable for flight to take off and land. However, this can be taken care of with a private helicopter flight to Pokhara. A helicopter is more maneuverable than a small aircraft, making it resistant to the high-speed afternoon winds. Just like upgraded accommodations, this arrangement is also exclusive of the standard Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake.
