Our short Annapurna Circuit Trek Itinerary extends to cover about 90 km in a span of 9 trekking days. Though the trek is referred to as 12 Days  Short Annapurna Circuit Trek, there are 9 trekking days since 3 days are kept for traveling to and from the start and end of the trek.

The standard  Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is 15 to 20 days long but this is a shortened version of the trail which means it is not suitable for beginners at all.

Our Annapurna Circuit Guided Trek takes you through the standard route but we will start the trek from Chame instead of Besisahar which is the standard starting point.

We will go over the  Short Annapurna Circuit Trek 12 days  Itinerary in a counter-clockwise manner as it is the best way  to acclimatize well.

During your 12 Days  Short Annapurna Circuit Trek, you will go through a range of landscapes starting from the lower hilly vegetation of Chame, the alpine vegetation of Yak Kharka, and ultimately the arid vegetation of Manang.

During your  Short Annapurna Circuit Guided Trek, you are expected to walk 7 to 10 kilometers on average carrying a light day pack.

The Best Time For Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is during October and November when the environment is kind of dry and the average temp during day stays around 15°C.

Another Best Time For Annapurna Circuit Trek is during the summertime. It can get a bit hot in the lower regions and the cities, but the views are crystal clear and the best you can experience.

We recommend you pack light clothing for this trek but make sure that they are capable of handling extreme cold. You can also bring your personal trekking equipment or rent it out from a local shop in Kathmandu.

Neither of these things is a part of the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek Cost. Find out more about the trek below.

Route Map & Altitude Chart

Essential Information of Short Annapurna Circuit Trek

Difficulty

The high altitude (maximum 5416 m at Thorong La Pass), the rugged/inclined trails, and the chilly air of the  Short Annapurna Circuit Trek make up for the difficulty of the trek.

High altitude means a low amount of oxygen in the air which causes shortness of breath to make up for the limited oxygen. Inclined trails at some sections are very difficult as we will be trekking on soil grounds, not well-paved roads. All in all, our Annapuran guides rate this trek a 7 out of 10.

Best seasons

The Best Time For  Short Annapurna Circuit Trek 12 days  is during the autumn, summer, and spring season. The summer season might seem a bit too warm in the lower hilly region but it sure is the time for the best views of the region.

During summer, the bright illuminated green hills of the region paired with the bright white peaks in the distance make up a scene you will hardly forget.

On the other side, autumn and spring seasons also make up great views but they are usually chosen for their “less rainfall” trait. All in all the Best Time For Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is summer followed by spring and autumn.

Altitude Sickness

You are not very likely to get altitude sickness during this trek as we barely spend time at elevations higher than 5000 meters which is the home of the sickness.

The highest point of the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is the Thorong-la Pass, an astounding 5416 meters above sea level, but we will not be spending much time there.

Altitude sickness generally occurs when one spends the night at a high altitude without proper acclimatization. This is exactly the reason we have included many acclimatization hikes throughout our Short Annapurna Circuit Trek itinerary.

Accommodation, Food, and Drink

During this Short Annapurna Circuit  Trek, you will get to taste a bunch of authentic highland dishes that can only be found in the Annapurna region. The highlands of the Annapurna region are mainly inhabited by Gurung, Magar, and Thakali tribes, both of which have distinct food.

The Gurung villages in the region serve traditional dishes like Mohi Chop, Gurung Bread, Kinema, etc. while the Magar communities offer Bara, Batuk, fried yam, etc. The Thakali community is perhaps best known all over Nepal for their famous Thakali lunch/dinner set.

You can get all kinds of beverages ranging from refreshing tea and juices to alcoholic drinks. The Gurung and Magar communities locally produce alcohol made from Millet while in Manang you can find apple brandy and alcohol made from Barley, the main crop produced in the region.

The accommodation throughout the Short Annapurna Circuit  Trek  12 days is fairly comfortable with just the basic amenities done right. You will find some extra amenities but some of them might just be for the sake of it.

Nevertheless, the establishments in the highlands of Annapurna do not have a bad reputation as they are doing everything to make trekkers feel comfy even though materials are hard to come by in hardly accessible villages.

Transportation

Our Short Annapurna Circuit Trek Itinerary requires transport from Kathmandu to Chame on Jeep, flight to Pokhara from Jomson, and bus ride back to Kathmandu.

All of these transports are a part of the 12 Days Short Annapurna Circuit Trek package. You do not have to pay a single extra penny for these services unless you want to tip the Jeep driver.

For this  Short Annapurna Circuit Trek, it is mandatory to have an Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA) Permit and a TIMS card which stands for Trekker’s Information Management System.

The ACA permit costs, NRs. 3000 and can be obtained at the ACAP office in Pokhara while you can get a TIMS card for NRs. 2000 at Kathmandu Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu.

Our guide will help you obtain these said permits and the 12 Days Short Annapurna Circuit Trek package will cover the expense.

Add-Ons

Upgraded accommodation at Kathmandu

In general, we book a 3-star hotel room for our trekkers but if you would like to try some luxury, we can arrange an upgraded accommodation as per your preference.

You must let us know about upgrades before the booking phase of the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek. Note that the overall price of the trek will be adjusted accordingly if you choose to upgrade.

Upgraded transport from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Your bus ride from Pokhara to Kathmandu lasts for about 10 hours which might be troublesome for some or maybe you just don’t want to spend 10 hours on a seat. In that case, we can arrange a flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu which lasts for just 25 minutes.

You can spend the rest of the day exploring the attractions of Kathmandu. Note that the price of the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek will be adjusted accordingly if you choose to opt for a flight instead.

Sightseeing in Kathmandu and Pokhara

Since you will have to visit the two cities during this Short Annapurna Circuit Trek, it makes sense to explore them while you’re there. You can simply ask us to arrange a sightseeing tour in either city or both and we will make it happen. But be sure to let us know before you book the trek.

Upgraded transport from Jomson to Pokhara

There are no first-class flights from Jomsom to Pokhara, instead, upgrading your flight calls for a private helicopter ride to Pokhara. A private helicopter ride to Pokhara is more scenic compared to a regular small aircraft flight.

Frequently Asked Question (FAQ’s)

Yes, it is mandatory to have a licensed trekking guide with you at all times during your 12 Days Annapurna Circuit Trek. This has been placed as a rule since the local government does not want tourists traveling all over the conserved Annapurna region, unmanaged.

The best times are spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November), when the weather is pleasant, and the views are spectacular. Spring brings blooming flowers, while autumn offers crystal-clear skies. Winter can be too cold, and summer often sees heavy rains due to the monsoon.

No, the Annapurna Circuit Trek Itinerary is not a beginner-friendly as the harsh weather, steep sections, and high altitude nature of the Annapurna Circuit Guided Trek can be a lot to handle for absolute beginners.

As per our experienced Annapurna guides, you can travel the Annapurna Circuit Trek Itinerary in spring, summer, and autumn; all of these seasons provide great scenic treats.

Given the right circumstances and sensibility, we can modify the standard itinerary to fit your preference. But it has to be a destination that falls within the trail or near the proposed trail.
