Trip Overview of Lobuche Peak Climbing

The Lobuche Peak Climbing journey has been one of our best-experienced treks. Every trekker that we have sent on this amazing trek praised the ʻĀpana Everest and admired the efforts of our guides and porters. The reviews are really great with zero complaints or bad experiences.

Located 30 km southwest of the world-famous Mt. Everest, this trekking region is a remote highland location that is a part of the standard EBC trek. This means that infrastructure and services along the trekking route will be the best, compared to other Himalayan trekking destinations in Nepal. We will follow the standard EBC itinerary, but make a detour to the Lobuche peak on the way back from Gorakshep.

The Lobuche peak stands 6119 meters high and is graded as a trekking peak. Mountains that reach anywhere from 5800 meters to 6500 meters above sea level are considered trekking peaks, as most of them can be added as a part of a trekking experience with very little mountain climbing expertise needed to climb them. It was first climbed in 1984 by Sherpa Ang Gyalzen along with Laurence Nielson.

For this trek, we want everyone to be well-adapted to the drastic change in elevation and conditions, which is why we have 2 acclimatization days on our Lobuche Peak Climbing itinerary. During those days, we will take you on scenic acclimatization hikes with a 360-degree view of the entire surroundings.

Going on acclimatization hikes, long daily treks, climbing a mountain, ascending sharp gradients, etc., all of these things require a fit physique, one who has trained for the trek well, and is able to handle the physical requirements as we go higher and higher into the Everest region. Our guides and porters will be there to help you out if you are ever in a problematic situation.

There are many other things that one needs to be aware of before deciding to get on this Lobuche Peak Climbing journey. It is not a vacation to the tropical beaches, it is an adventurous and challenging trip to the remote Himalayas of Nepal. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the things that you can expect during this trek.

pilikia

The Lobuche Peak Climbing journey has been graded as a moderately difficult trek, but according to our experts, it is slightly on the challenging side because of the rugged trails and high ascents. The trail follows the standard EBC itinerary, which is already a moderate-grade trek, with the addition of climbing a 6,119-meter-high peak. This is definitely not a moderate trekking experience. Overall, this trek deserves a 9 out of 10 on the difficulty scale.

ʻO nā kau maikaʻi loa

The best season to do the Piʻi ʻo Lobuche Peak journey is definitely autumn. The autumn season offers a great outdoor environment, perfect for trekking and other outdoor activities. The chances of rain are very minimal, the weather remains clear for the most part, the visibility in the air is great, and the trail remains dry. In addition to those great qualities, it is also the festive period in Nepal, making it a great opportunity to experience the local culture of Nepal.

In addition to autumn, the wā kau puna is also the best season for this trek. The qualities of this season are the same as mentioned above, but the chances of rain are slightly higher, and you will get to see nature bloom. You must avoid doing this trek in any other season as much as possible.

Hiki i ka mea hoʻomaka ke komo i kēia huakaʻi?

No, this Lobuche Peak Climbing journey is not designed for beginners, nor is it meant for beginners. It is a challenging trek to the Everest region with the added difficulty of climbing a 6,100-meter-high peak. Only intermediate and seasoned trekkers should take on this trek, and they should also take a basic mountain climbing class beforehand. Even though our climbing leader will teach you how to use the climbing gear, it is always better to be prepared beforehand, so we do not spend time explaining things.

Maʻi Altitude

This Lobuche Peak Climbing journey takes you to a maximum elevation of 6119 meters at the summit of Lobuche East peak. We will also be spending a considerable amount of time at around 5000 meters of elevation, which is the main point of altitude sickness attacks. Usually, people get hit with altitude sickness when they climb too fast to their destinations and do not practice the preventive measures. Our trek guide will make sure that you go over all the preventive measures of altitude sickness every day.

Noho, ʻAi a me ka mea inu

Accommodations are limited to homestays, local inns, lodges, and tea houses during the trekking days of this Lobuche Peak Climbing journey, while you will be staying at standard 3-star hotels in Kathmandu.

You will have plenty of food options, including local dishes and food like noodles, spaghetti, sandwiches, etc. We recommend you try the local food as much as possible since they are locally produced and the healthiest option around. When it comes to drinks, you will have to work it out on warm tea, coffee, seasonal fruit juice, soda, canned juice, cola, etc. You will have a plethora of food and drink options at Namche Bazaar, but they will thin out as we move up the valley.

Accommodation upgrades are usually only available in the city area, but since the Everest region is the most developed trekking destination of Nepal, there are high-end accommodations in most villages. The upgraded accommodation during the trekking days is not 4 or 5-star hotels but a premium version of Himalayan lodges. You will only get 4-star and 5-star accommodation during your stay in the city area.

Upgrading your accommodation comes at a price, which is not covered by the standard Lobuche Peak Climbing package. The standard accommodation is a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu and local tea houses during the trekking days.

Holo ʻo Helicopter pilikino i a mai Lukla

We mentioned previously that only morning flights are available to and from Lukla since the afternoon swift winds are not suitable for takeoff and landing. If you want to avoid this restraint, you can simply choose to charter a helicopter instead. A private helicopter flight means that you will be able to fly there at any time you like, in addition to the spacious seats and wide scenery from the huge open windows. You will be charged separately for this service.
