Trip Overview of Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek  located within the Taplejung district, Glory Adventure  takes you around the third-highest peak on the planet. This peak stands on the border of Nepal and Sikkim, having us travel to the eastern part of Nepal. The eastern highlands of Nepal are dominated by Lepcha, Limbu, Sherpa, na Tamang communities. Their unique traditional and Buddhist-influenced culture will surely be an attraction of the trek.

Officially opened to foreign visitors in 1988, this region is still in pristine natural condition, offering a great trekking experience over remote trails and secluded villages that are authentic to the core. Even though the Safari ya Mzunguko ya Kanchenjunga is considered a challenging trek, the scenes along the route and the amazing scenery you see from the base camps and high mountain passes are worth the time and effort.

Glory Adventure’s Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek itinerary will have you visit the Southern Kanchenjunga Base Camp, aka Oktang Viewpoint, along with a hike to the Southern Kanchenjunga Base Camp, aka Pang Pema. After this, we will cross three different mountain passes, namely Sele La Pass (4290 m), Sinion La Pass (4440 m), na Mirgin La Pass (4480 m).

The Lhopo communities that live close to the base camp region consider the peak to be a sacred site. So, they do not dare to climb it under any circumstances. The name kanchenjunga comes from their dialect, which translates to “five treasures of the high snow”. The five treasures are the five peaks of the Kanchenjunga range. State-level efforts have been made to keep this region as clean and beautiful as possible.

Let’s learn more about this gorgeous trekking experience, discussing all the aspects of the trek. Hopefully, this will help you decide if you want to trek to Kanchenjunga.

Essential Information of Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek

Safari yetu inaanzaje?

Glory Adventure  Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek begins with your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. One of our reps will be there to receive you and take you to your accommodation for the night. The next day, we will obtain our permits and go on a sightseeing tour around the Kathmandu valley. On day 3, we will finally hit the road and fly to Bhadrapur, followed by a drive to Taplejung. The following day, we will drive to Sekathum, the starting point of this amazing trek.

Ugumu

The classic Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is graded as a challenging trek that is not meant for everyone. You need to have at least some prior trekking experience to be able to complete this trek without any major difficulty. The main difficult aspects of this trek are the high mountain passes, the difficult hike to the base camps, and the overall trekking conditions at high altitude. Glory Adventure’s expert guides rated this trek a 9 on a scale of 10.

Misimu bora

The best seasons for this Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek are spring and autumn. Both seasons offer great trekking conditions, such as great visibility, bright sunny days with clear skies, low chances of rain, and more.

  • Autumn season: Autumn season, in particular, offers a drier period with very minimal chances of precipitation, and it is also the festive season here in Nepal. On the other hand.
  • Msimu wa spring: offers a vibrant trekking experience as wild flowers, berries, and Rhododendron flowers bloom fully during this time of the year. Spring is also the season when birds and animals are more active.

Ugonjwa wa Mwinuko

Altitude sickness is not really a major concern during this trek as we will not be spending our nights at extreme altitudes over 5000 meters of elevation. We will only spend 3 nights over 4000 meters of elevation, which is a safe altitude. Even if you were to get altitude sickness at such a low altitude, you would only feel a slight headache or nausea, nothing serious. You can simply descend a couple of hundred meters to get rid of it or just take a pill.

To keep you safe from altitude sickness, our guide will teach you all the preventive measures and also measure your oxygen levels to check for any early signs. Your oxygen levels will be checked every night before bed and early morning before breakfast. Necessary steps will be taken if symptoms appear.

Malazi, Chakula na Vinywaji

Accommodation in city areas will be in 3-star hotels, while the trekking days will be spent staying in local tea houses and lodges. Your night at the Selele Base Camp might be in a tent since there are only two tea houses that have a limited number of rooms available. Upgraded accommodations are also a viable option, but only in the city area. Regardless of where you are staying, every accommodation is arranged on a twin-sharing basis. If you want a private room to yourself, it can be arranged at a price.

Breakfast options during the trekking days are oatmeal, porridge, toast, eggs, pancakes, etc., served with a cup of hot tea. Your lunch and dinner options are momo , thukpa, chowmein, fried rice, Dal Bhat, noodles, spaghetti, etc. Western options are not very popular as we climb higher into the valley. Drinks like tea, juice, canned drinks, soda, etc., are your only options.

Usafiri

This Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek itinerary requires trekkers to fly to Bhadrapur, followed by a drive to Taplejung, a drive from Taplejung to Sekathum, a drive to Kanyma from Yamphudin, and a flight back to Kathmandu at the end of the trek. All of these transportation expenses will be covered by our standard trek package.

Idhini

The Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Permit and a Restricted Area Permit are the only two permits needed for this trek. All of the permit fees will be covered by the standard Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek package.

Maandalizi ya safari na usawa

The best way to prepare for this trek is to go on short hikes to hills, if possible. If you live somewhere far from the hills, there are plenty of other ways to prepare for the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek. You can simply hit the gym and work on your legs and stamina building. Or, you can simply go on jogs. We recommend you cover at least 7 to 8 km jogging since our daily trekking distance is around that mark. While in the gym, you should work out your leg muscles and focus on endurance-building exercises. No matter what you choose to do, you must commit to it 4 to 5 times a week.

Gharama na Bajeti

Our Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek package will cost you USD 1950 per person. This package will cover your daily accommodation expenses, three meals daily during the trek days, permit fees, local taxes at remote villages, transportation expenses, and more.

Kuchaji vifaa na Intaneti

Charging your gadgets will be an issue for most days, since you are likely to face frequent power outages. We recommend bringing a power bank. As for the internet, there is no way around it. You will not get a stable internet connection throughout the trekking days since the villages are too remote for good network coverage of any kind, not even cell network.

Gharama zako za Ziada

Your extra expenses are additional meals, extra accommodations, tips for the crew members, international flight to and from Kathmandu, personal travel and medical insurance fees, hot shower fees, laundry bill, and anything that is not stated to be a part of the standard Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek package.

Things to Remember Before Trekking the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek

  • Since this itinerary goes through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, every international trekker is required to have a licensed guide with them.
  • This is a challenging trek with long trekking hours and difficult ascents. Please make sure that you prepare for it well.
  • Only physical preparation is not sufficient for this trek, you must also prepare yourself mentally since you have to deal with rugged, barren terrain away from the modern world.
  • Take the preventive measures of altitude sickness very seriously since it will save you from a lot of trouble.
  • Carry a handful of water purification tablets to make sure that your drinking water is free from any contaminants.

Kuongeza-Ons

Boresha Makazi Yako huko Kathmandu

Kathmandu is home to a plethora of high-end establishments, particularly 4-star and 5-star hotels that offer a luxurious staycation. Our standard accommodation arrangement will be at 3-star hotels, which will be comfortable and serviceable. However, most trekkers enjoy a bit of luxury before spending weeks in remote areas with just the basic living conditions. If you want an upgrade, you should mention it during the booking phase. This upgrade is not a part of the standard Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek package.

Maswali Yanayoulizwa Mara kwa Mara (Maswali Yanayoulizwa Mara kwa Mara)

Yes, private rooms are available every night except for your night at Selele Base Camp, where you might have to spend the night in a tent.

The tea houses in the Kanchenjunga region offer basic facilities with one or two extra amenities like hot showers, laundry, WiFi, and more. The extra facilities will be charged to you separately.

Yes, vegan and vegetarian food are available throughout the trek. In fact, we recommend trekkers to keep away from meat during the trekking days since proper refrigeration might not be available at every eatery.

You just need to have a pair of trekking poles, shades, sleeping bags, spikes, and gloves. This Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek does not require any special or complex trekking gear.

If you want to, you can bring your personal gear, but usually it’s a hassle to pack your trek gear, and it is also extra weight for you to carry around. So, we recommend you rent trekking gear from a local shop.
